(Central Islip, N.Y., Dec. 30, 2024) – The Long Island Ducks today announced that former third baseman Carlos Baerga has been chosen as the ninth member of the franchise’s 25th Anniversary Team.

Baerga spent the 2001 season with the Ducks and put together one of the best offensive seasons in franchise history. In 53 games, he batted .315 with nine home runs, 44 RBIs, 38 runs, 64 hits, nine doubles, three triples and a .905 OPS. For his efforts, he was selected as the North Division’s starting third baseman in the Atlantic League All-Star Game at Newark. The Puerto Rico native then had his contract purchased by the Samsung Lions of the Korean Baseball Organization.

Following the season, the three-time American League All-Star was signed by the Boston Red Sox organization and was called up to the Major Leagues in April. He became the first player in Ducks history to reach MLB after playing with Long Island. The 14-year MLB veteran went on to spend four more seasons in the Majors with the Red Sox (2002), Arizona Diamondbacks (2003-04) and Washington Nationals (2005) after his time with Ducks. Baerga currently serves as an analyst for the Cleveland Guardians Spanish language radio broadcasts on WARF 1350 AM in Cleveland.

Every week throughout the offseason leading up to Opening Night of the 2025 campaign, the Ducks will unveil a new member of the franchise’s 25th Anniversary Team. Players were chosen based on their contributions to the organization, including on-field accomplishments, longevity with the franchise, impact on their professional playing career and involvement with the Long Island community.
