Outfielder is eighth Ducks player to have contract purchased by MLB in ‘21
 

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 19, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks today announced the contract of outfielder Charlie Tilson has been purchased by the Philadelphia Phillies. He will report to the team’s Double-A club in Reading, Pa. Tilson becomes the eighth member of the 2021 Ducks roster to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization.

“Charlie got on base consistently and played very well defensively during his time with the Ducks,” said Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. “We congratulate him on this opportunity and wish him the best of luck.”

Tilson has played in eight games with the Ducks after signing with the team on June 8. He has compiled a .296 batting average with seven RBIs, two runs, eight hits, two doubles, three walks, two stolen bases and a .355 on-base percentage. Most recently, the 28-year-old has hit safely in each of his past five games, batting .389 (7-for-18) with two doubles, six RBIs, two runs, two walks and a .450 on-base percentage in that span.

The Illinois native has three seasons of Major League experience (2016, 2018-19) with the Chicago White Sox. In 96 games, he has totaled a .246 batting average with one home run, 23 RBIs, 23 runs, 62 hits, six doubles, one triple and six stolen bases. The lefty began the 2021 season in the Mexican League, playing seven games with Acereros de Monclova.

In corresponding roster moves, the Ducks have signed and activated left-handed pitchers Darin Downs and Francisco Gracesqui and acquired right-handed pitcher Jhoendri Herrera from the Empire League.
