Long Island Falls in Series Opener
(York, Penn., Aug. 30, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks fell to the York Revolution 5-1 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Sovereign Bank Stadium.
York opened the scoring with two in the fifth inning off Ducks starter John Brownell. Matt Spencer lined a RBI double to right, and a Kody Kirkland sacrifice fly to center did the damage. Ryan Strieby launched a home run to center off Revolution starter Chris Cody in the seventh inning to put the Ducks on the board.
The Revs extended their lead with two in the bottom of the seventh on a Salvador Paniagua RBI double and a Ruddy Yan sacrifice fly. Andres Perez hit a solo home run in the eighth to cap the scoring.
Cody (13-8) recorded the win, allowing one run on seven hits in seven and one-third innings. Brownell (9-9) suffered the defeat, giving up five runs on nine hits in eight innings.
Bryant Nelson had three hits to pace Long Island.
The Ducks continue their six-game road trip on Saturday with the middle of a three-game series against the York Revolution. Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m. from Sovereign Bank Stadium. Long Island returns home on Friday, September 6 to open up a four-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05.
