Ducks overcome three-run deficit to top Barnstormers on Saturday night
(Central Islip, N.Y., June 22, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 4-3 on Saturday night before a past-capacity crowd of 6,527 at Bethpage Ballpark.
Lancaster jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on back-to-back RBI doubles by Dan Gamache and Caleb Gindl. An RBI infield single by Darian Sandford in the second off Ducks starter Jake Fisher extended the lead to three.
Long Island closed the gap to one in the second when Hector Sanchez scored on a wild pitch by Barnstormers starter Kelvin Vasquez and Rando Moreno lifted a sacrifice fly to left field. An RBI double to right by Sanchez in the third tied the game at three, and Ezequiel Carrera’s RBI single up the middle in the fourth put the Ducks on top 4-3.
Fisher (4-6) earned the win, tossing six innings of three-run ball, allowing nine hits and one walk while striking out three. Vasquez (0-2) suffered the loss, surrendering four runs on four hits and three walks over three and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts. Josh Lueke recorded his sixth save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out the side.
Sanchez led the Flock offensively with two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
The Ducks and Barnstormers wrap up their four-game set on Sunday afternoon. Game time is slated for 1:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 12:35 (12:20 for full season ticket holders). It’s “Bark in the Park”, presented by West Hills Animal Hospital, and the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Ducks Tote Bags. It’s also a Sunday Family Funday at the ballpark, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Prior to the game, fans will be invited onto the field for an autograph session with the Ducks from 12:50 to 1:05 p.m. After the game, kids and kids at heart can take part in Kids Run the Bases. Left-hander Darin Downs (0-2, 3.34) toes the rubber for the Ducks against Barnstormers righty Kyle Davies (4-3, 2.75).
