Willis tosses one-hit shutout in Ducks big win

(Lancaster, Pa., June 14, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 8-0 on Friday night in the opening game of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The Ducks started the scoring with four runs in the first inning. Bryant Nelson, Joash Brodin, and Adam Bailey hit consecutive RBI singles, and another run scored on an error. Danny Perales added to the lead with a solo home run to right field in the fourth inning.

The Ducks tacked on three more runs in the eighth inning when Brodin socked a RBI double to left and Ralph Henriquez and Josh Barfield added RBI singles.

Long Island starter Dontrelle Willis (4-2) earned the win in dominant fashion, throwing a one-hit complete game shutout, striking out five. Lancaster starter Brian Grening (4-3) took the loss, surrendering six hits and five runs (four earned) with two walks and five strikeouts.

Ben Broussard led the Ducks with three hits, while Nelson, Brodin, and Bailey each added two. Brodin also drove in two runs.

The Ducks continue their three-game set against the Lancaster Barnstormers Saturday night. Game time is 7:00 from Clipper Magazine Stadium. The Ducks return to Bethpage Ballpark on Friday, June 21 to open a three-game weekend set with the Sugar Land Skeeters.
