Errors in ninth and 10th even series

(Camden, N.J., Aug. 20, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Camden Riversharks 3-2 in 10 innings on Tuesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Campbell’s Field.

Long Island jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a RBI ground-rule double by Bill Hall and a run-scoring wild pitch by Riversharks starter Scott Gorgen. Camden cut the Ducks lead in half on Delwyn Young’s RBI double to right-center in the sixth off Ducks starter John Brownell.

The Riversharks rallied for a run in the ninth to tie the game. A single and catcher’s interference put two runners on base, and Raul Padron’s sacrifice fly to right knotted the score at two. Dionys Cesar’s bloop single to left in the 10th following a crucial throwing error gave Camden the walk-off win.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Brownell tossed eight innings of one-run ball, allowing just six hits and a walk while striking out seven. Gorgen pitched seven innings, yielding two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts. Zach Hammes (1-0) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief, and Josh Lansford (1-2) suffered the loss, surrendering a run on two hits and a walk in one-third of an inning.

Ray Navarrete and Willis Otanez each had two hits to lead the Flock.

The Ducks and Riversharks wrap up their three-game set on Wednesday night. First pitch from Campbell’s Field is slated for 7:05 p.m. Fans can follow all the action live online, with streaming video and audio available on the Ducks official YouTube channel, youtube.com/ducksbaseball. Right-hander Chris McCoy takes the mound for the Ducks against Riversharks righty Jake Hale.
