GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the series finale in Bridgeport
The Ducks opened the scoring in the first inning on Lew Ford’s run-scoring groundout and Jon Griffin’s RBI double off of Bluefish starter Scott Maine. Three more runs in the second increased the lead to 5-0. RBI singles from Bryan Sabatella and Cody Puckett, along with a RBI double by Ford, did the damage.
Bridgeport closed to within three on two-out RBI singles by Ryan Babineau in the second and James Simmons in the third off of Ducks starter Ian Marshall. A two-run fifth inning, highlighted by Sean Burroughs’ RBI single and a sac fly from Simmons, made it a 5-4 game. The Bluefish would tie the score in the seventh on a run-scoring wild pitch thrown by Amalio Diaz.
It remained even until the top of the 11th when Dan Lyons delivered a single to left-center, and an error on the play plated Reegie Corona. However, a dropped fly ball in left and a RBI double by Ildemaro Vargas knotted the score at six in the bottom of the inning. The score stayed 6-6 until the 14th when a throwing error on a potential inning ending double play ball scored John Alonso with the winning run.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Marshall tossed five innings, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five. Maine lasted five and two-thirds innings, surrendering five runs on six hits and four walks with four strikeouts. Sam Gervacio (1-1) collected the win with one and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief. Matt Soren (0-1) took the loss, allowing an unearned run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning.
Corona led the Flock with three hits, while Puckett added two.
The Ducks return home on Friday to begin a four-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
