Ducks right-hander sets career-high for punchouts in ninth start of season

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 24, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the York Revolution 6-3 on Tuesday night in the opening game of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

Josue Herrera put the Revolution on the scoreboard early with a two-run home run to right field in the second inning off Ducks starter Anderson DeLeon. Jack Kenley’s solo homer to right in the third made it a 3-0 game. However, Nick Bottari responded with a two-out, two-run single to right-center off Revolution starter Eduardo Rivera in the bottom of the third, closing the gap to 3-2.

York got one of the runs back in the fourth on Darian Sandford’s sac fly to center. It stayed that way until the eighth when Osmy Gregorio’s solo homer to left-center made it 5-2. Long Island closed back to within two when Bottari scored on a wild pitch in the eighth. They would get no closer though, and Nellie Rodriguez’s RBI single in the ninth rounded out the scoring.

Rivera (3-2) picked up the win, tossing five innings, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six. DeLeon (3-3) suffered the loss, conceding four runs on 11 hits and no walks over six and two-thirds innings with a career-high nine strikeouts. Jim Fuller earned his 17th save of the season with a scoreless ninth, working around two hits.

Bottari led the Flock offensively with four hits, two RBIs and a run scored. L.J. Mazzilli added two hits, two walks and a run scored.
