Ducks win second straight

 

(Bridgeport, Conn., June 25, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 2-1 in 10 innings on Saturday night in the third game of a four-game set at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

The Ducks opened the scoring in the top of the fifth inning on a Bluefish error. Delta Cleary Jr. hit a ground ball under the glove of Bluefish third baseman Josh Vitters, scoring Lew Ford. Bridgeport evened the score at one on Adron Chambers’ RBI fielder’s choice in the sixth.

Mike Dowd’s RBI single to right field in the tenth gave the Ducks a 2-1 lead. Amalio Diaz nailed down his second save in the tenth inning, stranding the tying run at third.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Long Island left-hander Jack Snodgrass allowed one run on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks over six innings. Bridgeport starter Mike Antonini allowed one unearned run on five hits with five strikeouts and four walks over five innings. Patrick Crider (3-0) earned the win, pitching one-third of an inning with one strikeout. Paul Demny (2-1) took the loss, allowing one run on two hits and three walks in one and one-third innings.

Anthony Vega led the Ducks with three hits, while Cleary Jr. added two hits and scored a run.

The Ducks and Bluefish wrap up their four-game set on Sunday afternoon. Game time is slated for 1:12 p.m. from the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Long Island returns home on Monday, June 27 to open a four-game set against the Revolution. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
