Lefty’s seven scoreless innings lead the way in Long Island’s first series sweep of 2021

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 15, 2021) –
The Long Island Ducks defeated the West Virginia Power 6-0 on Thursday night in the final game of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

The Ducks took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a two-out RBI double to left-center field from Steve Lombardozzi. Daniel Fields’ leadoff solo home run to left off Power starter in the fifth doubled Long Island’s lead to two, and an RBI double down the left field line by Deibinson Romero in the sixth made it a 3-0 ballgame.

A three-run seventh inning doubled the Ducks lead from three to six. L.J. Mazzilli launched a two-out, two-run homer to left-center, and Romero went back-to-back with a solo shot to left.

Ducks starter Darin Downs (1-1) was magnificent to earn the win, tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out four. Figueroa (1-1) took the loss, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks over six innings with three strikeouts. Hunter Cervenka and Ryan Richardson each tossed a scoreless inning of relief for the Flock.

Mazzilli and Romero each had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Ducks offensively, while Vladimir Frias added two hits as well. Long Island turned five double plays defensively in the win.
