(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 4, 2026) – The Long Island Ducks today announced that right-handed pitcher Drew VerHagen has been signed by Guerreros de Oaxaca of the Mexican League. The transaction marks VerHagen as the eighth Long Island Ducks player to have his contract transferred in 2026.
“Drew was very impressive on the mound throughout his time in our starting rotation,” said Ducks Manager Lew Ford. “We wish him the best of luck in Mexico.”
VerHagen made three starts with the Ducks in July, posting a 1-0 record with a 1.59 ERA. He allowed just two runs on 10 hits and two walks over 11.1 innings of work while striking out 12 batters. The 35-year-old earned his first win as a Duck last Friday against Staten Island, tossing five scoreless innings and striking out seven while conceding just three hits and a walk in the Ducks 8-4 win.
The Texas native is a veteran of eight Major League seasons with the Detroit Tigers (2014-19) and St. Louis Cardinals (2022-23). In 206 MLB games (eight starts), he has compiled an 18-12 record with a 4.98 ERA. The former fourth round draft pick from Vanderbilt University has totaled 234 strikeouts to 115 walks over 281.2 innings in The Show. He began the 2026 season in the Korean Baseball Organization, making six starts for NC Dinos before joining the Flock.
VerHagen becomes the eighth member of the 2026 Ducks to have his contract transferred. He joins right-handed pitchers Trevor Bauer (Diablos Rojos del Mexico) and Ramon Santos (Saraperos de Saltillo), left-handed pitcher Scott Alexander (Kansas City Royals), infielders Nick Roselli (New York Mets) and Henry Kusiak (Minnesota Twins), catcher Caleb Roberts (Minnesota Twins) and first baseman/DH Juan Yepez (Dorados de Chihuahua).
