(Sugar Land, Texas, Sept. 8, 2012) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 4-0 on Saturday night in the second game of a four-game series at Constellation Field.
Sugar Land took a 1-0 lead in the first against Ducks starter Bob Zimmermann on a run-scoring passed ball. It stayed that way until the seventh when another run came across on a throwing error by Bryant Nelson. A two-run homer by Steve Moss in the eighth inning rounded out the scoring.
Jason Lane (8-4) started for the Skeeters and picked up the win, pitching seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out four. Zimmermann (5-10) suffered the hard luck loss, yielding just two runs (one earned) on five hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings.
Ray Navarrete led the Ducks with two hits at the plate.
The Ducks and Skeeters play game three of their four-game set on Sunday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 PM EDT from Constellation Field. Long Island returns home on Tuesday, September 11 to open a seven-game homestand with a three-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35. It’s 9/11 Responders Night at the ballpark, and the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Baseball Caps, courtesy of the WTC Health Program. At 5:00, a steel beam from the World Trade Center will be donated to Ducks founder and CEO Frank Boulton and the Ducks and permanently affixed to the grounds outside Bethpage Ballpark.
