Daniel Fields homers for third consecutive game in victory over Lancaster
(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 3, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 9-1 on Friday night in the opener game of a four-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.
The Ducks opened the scoring in the second inning on Hector Sanchez’s RBI single up the middle and Daniel Fields’ two-run home run to right field off Barnstormers starter Nile Ball. Vladimir Frias pushed the lead to 5-0 in the fifth when he lined a two-run triple down the right field line.
In the seventh, Fields singled, went from first to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch by Alexis Rivero to make it 6-0. Three more runs scored in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to left by L.J. Mazzilli, a throwing error by Jake Hoover that allowed Johnni Turbo to score and a wild pitch by Ben Wanger that plated Deibinson Romero.
Ducks starter Scott Harkin (4-0) earned the win, tossing five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out three. Ball (2-4) suffered the loss, surrendering five runs on five hits and a walk over six innings with four strikeouts.
Fields led the Flock offensively with two hits, two RBIs and two runs. Sanchez added two hits, an RBI and two runs.
The Ducks and Barnstormers continue their four-game series on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Fireworks Spectacular, presented by Suffolk AME. It’s also a Lucky Seat Saturday, and one lucky fan will win a free trip to Nashville, courtesy of Long Island MacArthur Airport. Right-hander Anderson DeLeon (4-3, 4.73) takes the mound for the Ducks against Barnstormers lefty Tommy Shirley (3-2, 6.40).
