Five pitchers combine for three-hitter
(Bridgeport, Conn., June 5, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 5-0 on Wednesday morning in the middle game of a three-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the shutout victory
The Ducks grabbed the game’s first run on Dan Lyons’ two-out RBI single to left in the second inning off Bluefish starter Michael Colla. A two-out single to center by Ralph Henriquez in the third scored Joash Brodin to extend the lead to two.
Long Island tacked on another run in the seventh and two more in the eighth to put the game out of reach. A RBI fielder’s choice off the bat of Brodin, a RBI single to left by P.J. Phillips and a run-scoring groundout by Danny Perales did the damage.
James Houser (2-0) started and earned the win for the Ducks, tossing five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out five. Colla (2-4) suffered the loss, surrendering two runs (one earned) on seven hits with seven strikeouts in six innings.
Henriquez led the Flock with four hits on the day while Adam Bailey extended his on-base streak to 23 games and his hitting streak to 16, both the longest by a Duck this year. The pitching staff combined to allow just three hits and three walks while striking out eight in their third shutout of the season.
