(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 5, 2012) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 12-7 on Sunday evening in the final game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Bridgeport jumped out to an early lead with a RBI double by Eddie Rogers and a run-scoring single by Luis Lopez off Ducks starter Bob Zimmermann in the top of the first. The Ducks would answer back with four runs in the bottom of the second off Bluefish starter Dan Serafini to take the lead for good. Dan Lyons lined a bases-clearing, three-run triple to right, and Josh Johnson followed with a RBI double to left in the inning.

Long Island would extend their lead in the fifth on a two-run home run by Ray Navarrete and a three-run blast off the bat of Joash Brodin, making it 9-2. The offense continued with RBI singles by Navarrete in the sixth, Lyons in the seventh and Bryant Nelson in the eighth, as the Ducks held off a late charge from Bridgeport for the victory.

Zimmermann (5-5) picked up the win, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits in six and two-thirds innings of work. Serafini (4-3) suffered the loss, surrendering nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits and two walks in four and one-third innings.

Eight of nine Ducks batters had at least one hit and one run scored in the game. Navarrete, and Brodin led the Flock with three hits each.

The Ducks continue their nine-game homestand with the opener of a three-game set against the Sugar Land Skeeters on Monday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. Right-hander Chris Hayes will get the start for the Ducks against Skeeters righty Michael Nix.

Joash Brodin hit his first home run and had his first three-hit and three-RBI game as a Duck in the win. The first-year Duck hit .370 with 88 hits and 11 home runs this year with the London Rippers of the Frontier League before joining Long Island…Dan Lyons picked up his first four-RBI game of the year, giving him 12 multi-RBI games in 2012. His two-hit game was his 16th two-hit performance and 20th multi-hit game of the year…Ray Navarrete extended his team-leading totals in three-hit games with his 10th of the year and multi-hit contests with his 33rd. He also increased his team-lead in runs batted in to 67 with three in the game, his 20th multi-RBI performance…With two home runs in the game, the Ducks have now gone deep in seven consecutive games. Long Island has now hit 78 homers as a team in 2012…The 12 runs scored by the Ducks were their most in a single game in the second half of the season.
