(Central Islip, N.Y., April 20, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks open the 2017 regular season tonight when they visit the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in Waldorf, Md. This marks the first of 140 regular season games scheduled for the Ducks, as they being their 18th season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.

Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m. from Regency Furniture Stadium. Right-hander John Brownell, the Ducks’ all-time leader in wins (46), innings pitched (729.1), strikeouts (571) and games started (109) gets the Opening Day start for a fourth consecutive season. He will be opposed by Blue Crabs righty and five-year Major League veteran Justin De Fratus.

Fans can follow all of the action live on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network. Streaming HD video and audio will be available, courtesy of BoxCast, on the team’s official Facebook page via Facebook Live, on the Ducks’ official YouTube channel and on the team’s official website, LIDucks.com. Michael Polak will provide the play-by-play, with the Ducks pre-game show beginning at approximately 6:20.

Following a week-long road trip, the Ducks will return home on Friday, April 28 for the 2017 home opener against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Rich Hill Bobbleheads, courtesy of P.C. Richard and Son. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for player introductions and traditional Opening Night pomp and circumstance.
