Fisher dominates on mound while Ard drives in all three runs

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 18, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks shut out the New Britain Bees 3-0 on Wednesday night in game two of a day/night doubleheader at Bethpage Ballpark. New Britain took the opener earlier in the day, 7-2.

Long Island opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning, as Taylor Ard connected for a two-out, two-run double to left-center field off New Britain starter Rainy Lara. Ard’s sacrifice fly to left field two innings later scored Emilio Bonifacio with the third run for the Ducks.

That was more than enough for Ducks starter Jake Fisher (4-4) to earn the win. The lefty pitched six and one-third scoreless innings, allowing just six hits while striking out seven batters. Lara (5-4) took the loss, yielding three runs on eight hits and a walk in four and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts. Francisco Rodriguez collected his 15th save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.

Bonifacio led the Flock with three hits, while Travis Snider and Dan Lyons each added two.

The Ducks and Bees wrap up their three-game set on Thursday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It’s a Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark! The Duck Club Restaurant/Bar, normally reserved for VIP/season ticket holders, will be open to all fans to enjoy. The bar will feature drink specials, including half price domestics, while the restaurant will offer special menu selections. Left-hander Bennett Parry (6-1, 2.60) toes the rubber for the Ducks against Bees righty Mark Hamburger (6-5, 3.80).
