Long Island explodes for 15 runs on 15 hits in series opener

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 15, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the West Virginia Power 15-3 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

Ryan Jackson opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a two-out RBI double down the left field line off Power starter Misael Siverio. Sal Giardina doubled the lead to two in the second with an RBI double to right-center field. The lead was doubled again in the third when Jackson crushed a two-run home run to left, making it a 4-0 ballgame.

West Virginia closed to within a run in the fourth on an RBI single by Jose Tabata and a two-run bloop single by Alberto Callaspo off Ducks starter Mike Bolsinger. However, Long Island erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth, stretching their advantage to 11-3. Two-run singles by Lew Ford and Steve Lombardozzi and RBI singles from Hector Sanchez and Rey Fuentes highlighted the big inning.

The Ducks plated four more runs in the eighth to round out the scoring. An error that plated Edgar Lebron, and a three-run home run to right by Fuentes did the damage.

Bolsinger (1-3) earned the win, tossing five and two-thirds innings of three-run ball, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out five. Siverio (0-3) took the loss, conceding eight runs (six earned) on eight hits and a walk over four and one-third innings with three strikeouts.

Jackson led the Flock offensively with three hits, three RBIs and two runs. Fuentes added two hits, four RBIs and two runs.
