Offense totals 14 hits to even three-game series at one

(Bridgewater, N.J., May 19, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 6-2 on Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.

The Ducks exploded for three runs in the first inning off Patriots starter Cory Riordan. An RBI double by Lew Ford, a sacrifice fly off the bat of David Washington and an RBI single by Wilkin Castillo highlighted the inning. A two-out, two-run double to right-center by Yovan Gonzalez in the second off Ducks starter John Brownell trimmed the lead to 3-2.

It stayed that way until the seventh when Long Island plated three more runs to increase their advantage to 6-2. Travis Snider launched a solo homer to right, Lew Ford scored on an error and Castillo lifted an RBI double to right.

Brownell (2-2) earned the win with a quality start, tossing six innings of two-run ball, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out two. Riordan (1-1) suffered the loss, yielding three runs on eight hits and three walks over five innings with two strikeouts. Rob Rogers, Wander Perez and Dennis O’Grady each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Flock.

Every Duck reached base safely in the game, with eight of the nine recording at least one hit and six recording two. Snider had two hits an RBI and two runs scored, Ford had two hits and RBI and two runs, and Castillo had two hits and two RBI.
