(Lancaster, Penn., July 8, 2012) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 5-4 on Sunday night in the final game of the first half at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Both teams exchanged scoreless innings until the fourth when a two-run home run by Tommy Everidge off Ducks starter Bob Zimmermann gave Lancaster a 2-0 lead. The Ducks cut the deficit to one in the fifth on Josh Johnson’s run-scoring groundout off Barnstormers starter Mark Brackman.

The ‘Stormers added another two-spot in the fifth on a solo homer by Kody Kirkland and a RBI single by Fehlandt Lentini to take a 4-1 lead. However, the Ducks would tie the game with a run in the sixth on Brandon Sing’s RBI single and two in the eighth on Ray Navarrete’s two-run homer, his ninth of the season.

It stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth when Ryan Harvey hit a leadoff solo blast to end the game.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Zimmermann lasted eight innings, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out five, and Brackman went seven innings, yielding two runs on four hits with five strikeouts as well. Beau Vaughan (3-0) got the win after tossing a scoreless ninth inning, and Jeremy Hill (2-3) suffered the loss, allowing the game-winning run.

Shawn Williams and James McOwen led the Flock with two hits apiece, while Navarrete added two RBI.

Following the Atlantic League All-Star break this week, the Ducks will begin the second half on the road Friday night against the cross-sound rival Bridgeport Bluefish. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
