Late runs give Ducks first victory in Bridgeport in 2015

(Bridgeport, Conn., June 12, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 2-1 on Friday night in game two of a four-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

After six scoreless innings to start the game, the Bluefish broke through in the seventh against Ducks starter Mickey Jannis and took a 1-0 lead. Jake Luce’s RBI single to left did the damage.

Long Island came right back and took the lead with two runs in the eighth. Lew Ford’s RBI double to deep right scored Reegie Corona for the first run. After a balk on Bridgeport’s Tim Gustafson advanced Ford to third, Randy Ruiz lifted a sacrifice fly to right to put the Flock on top 2-1. Ryan Kussmaul finished the win with a scoreless ninth.

Jannis (4-2) earned the win for the Ducks. The righty surrendered one run on six hits through seven innings. He walked three and struck out two. Gustafson (0-4) took the loss for the Bluefish, yielding two runs on one hit and two walks with one strikeout in one inning. Amalio Diaz pitched a 1-2-3 eighth for Long Island before Kussmaul earned his league-leading 12th save of the year in the ninth. Bridgeport starter D.J. Mitchell did not factor into the decision but pitched seven shutout innings. He allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out eight.

Ford led the Flock with two hits, one run, and one RBI. Corona also finished with two hits and one run.

The Ducks continue the four-game series with the cross-sound rival Bridgeport Bluefish on Saturday. Game time is slated for 6:05 p.m. at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Long Island returns home on Tuesday, June 16 to open a three-game series with the Sugar Land Skeeters.
