Giardina Reaches Base Safely Four Times

(York, PA, June 13, 2021) – The York Revolution defeated the Long Island Ducks 4-2 at PeoplesBank Park on Sunday afternoon in the rubber game of a three game weekend series in the Keystone State.

York sent eight batters to the plate in the bottom half of the first inning versus losing pitcher Chris Reed (1-2) and scored three times to take a quick 3-0 lead as Nellie Rodriguez registered a sacrifice fly which was sandwiched between run-scoring doubles produced by Melky Mesa and Carlos Franco. Reed surrendered three runs (two earned runs) on three hits in two innings pitched, walking and striking out two.

Long Island got to within 3-2 in the top of the sixth thanks to a two-out base knock off the bat of Charlie Tilson that enabled Ryan Jackson and Sal Giardina to cross the plate after Jackson led off the rally with a single and Giardina reached by way of his third walk in as many plate appearances. Giardina would later get on base for the fourth time on the day with a base hit in the seventh and would also cash in on his second stolen base of 2021 later on in the frame. The Flock brought the tying-run to the plate in the ninth against Jim Fuller, but the Revolution southpaw would close things out for his second save in as many games, making a winner out of York starting pitcher Austin Steinfort (1-2), who fired five scoreless innings on just two hits allowed, walking five while striking out a pair and tossing a wild pitch. Tilson had two hits for the Ducks en route to the loss. Photo provided courtesy of Joe Doll.
