Fields, Washington and Cabrera go deep as Ducks move into first place tie for second half

(Bridgewater, N.J., Aug. 7, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 10-7 on Tuesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.

The Ducks erupted for four runs in the first inning off Patriots starter Kyle Davies. A solo homer to right field by Daniel Fields and a three-run home run to right off the bat of David Washington did the damage. Three more runs in the second on a bases loaded walk to Fields and a two-run single to right by Travis Snider increased the advantage to seven.

Somerset closed to within 7-5 with two runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and two more in the fifth off Ducks starter Hector Silvestre. Solo homers by Justin Trapp, Matt Oberste and Alfredo Rodriguez highlighted the scoring. Long Island increased the lead back up to four though on Fields’ RBI triple down the right field line in the sixth and Ramon Cabrera’s solo homer to right in the eighth.

The Patriots would rally to within two once again, as Oberste’s two-run single to center in the bottom of the eighth made it a 9-7 game. However, Somerset would get no closer, and Lew Ford’s run-scoring groundout in the ninth put the game out of reach.

Silvestre did not factor into the decision but allowed five runs on six hits and a walk over four and two-thirds innings with four strikeouts. Carlos Pimentel (1-3) earned the win, retiring all four batters he faced in relief, striking out three. Davies (5-6) took the loss, giving up seven runs on five hits and six walks over five innings while striking out five. Francisco Rodriguez picked up his 20th save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out two.

Fields led the Flock with three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored on the night. Washington added two hits, three RBIs and a run.

The Ducks and Patriots wrap up their three-game set on Wednesday morning. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. at TD Bank Ballpark. Live streaming HD video and audio will be available via BoxCast on the Ducks official Facebook page, YouTube channel and at LIDucks.com.
