Ford homers, drives in three in 5-1 victory
(Central Islip, N.Y., August 30, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks 5-1 on Saturday night in the second game of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Long Island took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI single from Lew Ford off Camden starter Cesar Sanchez. The Ducks extended their lead to three in the third on a two-out, two-run home run to center field from Ford.
Camden trimmed the deficit to two in the top of the fourth on a run-scoring fielder’s choice from Jose Morales off Ducks starter Shaun Garceau. The Flock later added two more runs in the fifth on a Fehlandt Lentini solo home run and a run-scoring wild pitch.
Garceau (13-3) earned the win, yielding one run over seven innings on seven hits while striking out four. Sanchez (0-1) took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts over five innings.
Ford, Lentini and Brandon Bantz paced the Ducks with two hits apiece, while Ford added three runs batted in.
The Ducks continue their four-game series against the Riversharks on Sunday evening. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 4:05. Right-hander Jared Lansford will get the start for Long Island against Camden righty Pedro Liriano. It is Jewish Heritage Night at the ballpark, and the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Commemorative Drawstring Bags, courtesy of the Chabad Jewish Centers of Long Island. Also, Wubbzy, from the Nick Jr. TV show Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!, will be at the ballpark to take pictures with fans.
In addition, it is a Sunday Family Funday at the ballpark! Prior to the game, fans will be invited onto the field for an autograph session with the Ducks from 4:20 to 4:35. After the game, kids and kids at heart can take part in Kids Run the Bases, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Finally, stick around after the game for the Ducks’ second annual Movie Night! Fans will be able to enjoy the popular baseball movie “The Sandlot” which will be shown on the DuckVision video board at Bethpage Ballpark.

Duck Tales: With two hits on Saturday, Lew Ford earned his 26th two-hit and team-leading 45th multi-hit game of the year. He has now hit safely in 17 of his last 19 games and 20 of his last 23 contests. Over his last 19 games, the former big leaguer is batting .395 (30-for-76) with 10 doubles, two homers, 15 RBI, 18 runs and five walks. Seven of the 17 games in that span in which he recorded a hit were multi-hit contests. In addition, it was Ford’s second three-RBI and 17th multi-RBI game of the year. The fifth-year Duck is now tied with Chad Tracy (York) for second in the Atlantic League in RBI (81)…Fehlandt Lentini earned his team-leading 32nd two-hit and 44th multi-hit game of the year. The first-year Duck has now hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games and 21 of his last 23 games. Over the last 14 games, Lentini is batting .324 (21-for-61) with two doubles, one home run, four RBI, 11 runs and two stolen bases. In addition, Lentini stole his 43rd stolen base of the year on Saturday and is a perfect 43-for-43 on the basepaths this season. Lentini ranks second in the league in steals, one behind Wilson Valdez (York)…With a double in the fifth inning on Saturday, Brendan Harris extended his hitting streak to 12 consecutive games. During the streak, Harris is batting .404 (21-for-52) with five doubles, one home run, six RBI, 11 runs and five walks. He has multiple hits in five of the 12 games…Cody Puckett hit a single on Saturday and has now hit safely in 14 of his last 16 games dating back to August 14. In those 16 games, he’s batting .368 (25-for-68) with three doubles, one triple, one homer, 14 RBI and six runs. Seven of the 14 games with a hit have been multi-hit contests…With two hits on Saturday, Brandon Bantz earned his seventh two-hit and 10th multi-hit game of the year. The former big leaguer has now recorded two hits in three straight games. During this stretch, Bantz is hitting .500 (6-for-12) with two doubles, one triple, three RBI and a run scored…Shaun Garceau earned his league-leading 13th win of the season with seven innings of one-run ball on Saturday. The second-year Duck has now won each of his last five starts, allowing just eight earned runs in 32 and one-third innings (2.23 ERA) in the process. It marks the second time this season the right-hander has won five starts in a row, with the first coming from June 4 to 26 when he won Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month honors. In addition, Garceau did not walk a batter on Saturday, marking the third consecutive game in which a Ducks starter did not allow a walk (23 innings pitched)…Saturday’s crowd of 7,033 was the Ducks’ 11th past-capacity crowd of the season. Long Island has now hosted 638 sold out crowds all-time, an Atlantic League record. In addition, the attendance was the second-largest at Bethpage Ballpark this season (7,075, July 4 vs. Camden).
