Alonzo Harris led off the game with a solo home run to left field off Ducks starter Jake Fisher, putting the Revolution ahead 1-0. Long Island evened the score in the bottom of the inning when Lew Ford reached on a throwing error, which scored Elmer Reyes from first base.
The Ducks took the lead in the fourth when Alex Burg launched a two-out solo home run over the right field wall off Revolution starter Frank Gailey. It stayed 2-1 until the sixth when two singles followed by a sacrifice fly from Harris tied the ballgame at two.
York then took the lead in the seventh when Isaias Tejeda doubled with two outs and scored on Travis Witherspoon’s RBI single. However, the Ducks answered back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at three on an RBI infield single to short by Giovanny Alfonzo.
The Revolution took the lead back though in the eighth with a pair of runs. Jared Mitchell’s RBI single to right and a run-scoring groundout to third by Telvin Nash did the damage. Long Island closed to within one in the bottom of the eighth on Burg’s RBI fielder’s choice, but the tying and go-ahead runs were stranded on base.
Gailey did not factor into the decision but pitched six and one-third innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts. Grant Sides (3-0) picked up the win after throwing a scoreless two-thirds of an inning, striking out two. Fisher (1-1) took the loss, giving up five runs on nine hits over seven and one-third innings while striking out six. Chase Huchingson collected his third save of the playoffs with one and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief.
Alfonzo and Reyes each had two hits to pace the Flock offensively.
