Bonifacio and Fields drive in two each in defeat
(New Britain, Conn., July 3, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the New Britain Bees 8-6 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at New Britain Stadium.

The Ducks jumped out quickly with a pair of doubles from Emilio Bonifacio and Lew Ford to take a 1-0 lead. Daniel Fields hit a two-run home run to make it 3-0 Ducks in the second inning off the second pitch following a brief rain delay. Jason Rogers of the Bees answered with a solo home run of his own in the bottom half of the frame to put New Britain on the board.
The Bees stormed ahead in the fourth inning, scoring four runs in a frame marked by a dropped third strike, three doubles and two walks. The Ducks knotted things up at five after a Bonifacio sacrifice fly drove in Anthony Vega, and a wild pitch scored Jordany Valdespin.
New Britain reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fifth on the back of three consecutive two-out singles, with Jonathan Galvez’s driving in a run. Brock Stassi’s bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the sixth inning gave the Bees a two-run lead. The Ducks refused to go away, as Bonifacio drove in Vega in the next inning with a single to pull the Ducks within one.
A solo home run off the bat of Deibinson Romero in the eighth inning represented the final run scored by the Bees. Evan Scribner then converted his tenth save with a one-two-three ninth inning.
Bennett Parry (5-1) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks, striking out three. Rainy Lara (4-3) earned the win, despite allowing five runs (three earned) over five innings of work, striking out five.
Taylor Ard led the Flock with three hits, while Fields and Bonifacio added two hits and two RBIs each.
The Ducks continue their three-game series tomorrow afternoon against the New Britain Bees. First pitch for the Independence Day matchup is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. at New Britain Stadium. Long Island returns home on Friday, July 6 to begin a three-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters. Game time is slated for 5:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 4:05 (3:50 for full season ticket holders). It’s a Bowlero Friday, and as fans exit the ballpark following the game, Ducks staff members will be handing out coupons for a special “buy one game of bowling, get one free” offer, courtesy of Bowlero. The Red Robin K-Man promotion will be taking place as well.
