Somerset struck for single runs in the second and third against Ducks starter Bill Murphy on Corey Smith’s RBI double and Aharon Eggleston’s RBI single. Bill Hall cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fourth with a mammoth solo homer to center off Patriots starter Derell McCall.

The Pats grabbed their two-run lead back in the fifth on a run-scoring wild pitch and put the game away with a four-run eighth. Angel Sanchez’s RBI double and Bobby Stevens’ three-run homer to left did the damage.

McCall (6-0) picked up the win, tossing five and two-thirds innings, allowing a run on four hits while striking out four. Murphy (2-14) took the loss, yielding three runs on eight hits with four strikeouts in six innings.

The Ducks and Patriots continue their four-game set on Friday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05.
