Blue Crabs rally back to split the series

(Waldorf, Md., April 30, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 4-3 in 10 innings on Thursday night in the finale of a four-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the extra inning affair

Long Island opened the scoring in the first on a two-out, two-run single to right-center field by Jon Griffin off Blue Crabs starter and former Duck Shaun Garceau. A two-out RBI single to left by Bryan Sabatella in the third extended the lead to 3-0.

Southern Maryland squeaked out a run in the second on Jamar Walton’s fly out to center. It stayed 3-1 until the seventh when a run-scoring infield single by Antone DeJesus cut the lead to one. Craig Maddox tied the game in the eighth with a RBI double to left.

It remained 3-3 until the bottom of the 10th when Cyle Hankerd scored the game-winning run on a groundout by Walton. It was deemed on the play that Reegie Corona had not tagged Casey Stevenson for the force out on the play.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Rogers pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing a run on one hit and three walks with one strikeouts. Garceau tossed eight innings, yielding nine runs on three hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Justin Berg (1-1) got the win with two scoreless innings of relief, and Frank DeJiulio, Jr. (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing a run on one hit and two walks in one and two-thirds inning.

Sabatella, Corona, Lew Ford and Cody Puckett each led the Flock with two hits.
