Both sides traded zeroes until the top of the sixth inning when Conor Bierfeldt hit a two-run home run to left field to give the Bees a 2-0 lead. Long Island answered with a run in the bottom of the frame when Fehlandt Lentini singled, stole second and third base, and came home on a wild pitch.

New Britain extended their lead with a three-run seventh inning. Michael Crouse’s two-run homer to left and a passed ball did the damage.

Ducks starter Matt Larkins pitched five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out five but did not factor into the decision. Bees starter Anthony Marzi (1-1) picked up the win with five shutout innings of his own, yielding three hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Patrick Crider (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on a hit and a walk while striking out two in one inning.

Cody Puckett led the Flock with two hits.
