Patriots grab series lead
(Bridgewater, N.J., June 30, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 7-1 on Sunday afternoon in the third game of a four-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.

Somerset took a 1-0 lead in the third on a solo homer down the left field line by Bobby Stevens off Ducks starter Pete Budkevics. Following an 11-minute rain delay, two more runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to center by Jeff Baisley and a RBI single to right by Cory Aldridge extended the lead to 3-0.
A three-run sixth inning ballooned the lead to six. A RBI single to center by Eddy Martinez-Esteve and a two-run fielding error did the damage. Adam Donachie’s solo home run to left in the seventh rounded out the scoring for Somerset, and Adam Bailey added a RBI double in the ninth for Long Island.
Patriots starter Erik Arnesen (6-1) earned the win, tossing eight innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits and three walks while striking out four. Budkevics (0-1) took the loss, surrendering three runs (one earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out four in five innings.
Josh Barfield led the Flock with two hits.
The Ducks and Patriots wrap up their four-game set on Monday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from TD Bank Ballpark. Southpaw Matt Way toes the rubber for Long Island against Somerset right-hander Paul Phillips. Long Island returns home on Tuesday, July 2 as they open the second half with the first game of a three-game series against the Patriots. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05.
