Long Island denied sweep of York

(Central Islip, N.Y., August 4, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the York Revolution 4-3 on Monday afternoon in the final game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

The Revolution took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run home run to left field by Sean Smith off Ducks starter Jared Lansford. The Ducks tied the game in the third on Fehlandt Lentini’s two-out two-run homer to left off Revolution starter Scott Gorgen.

York took the lead back in the fourth on a RBI single to left by Alberto Espinosa and a run-scoring fielding error. Long Island trimmed the deficit to one in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to right off the bat of Lentini, but they could not pull even.

Gorgen (4-7) picked up the win, tossing five and one-third innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Lansford (4-4) suffered the loss, surrendering four runs (three earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings. Stephen Penney earned his first save with a scoreless ninth.

Lentini led the Flock with two hits and three RBI.

Following a day off on Tuesday, the Ducks hit the road for six games beginning on Wednesday morning with the opener of a three-game series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Game time is slated for 11:05 a.m. from Regency Furniture Stadium. Right-hander Shaun Garceau takes the mound for the Ducks against Blue Crabs righty Daryl Thompson. Long Island will return home on Tuesday, August 12 to kick off a six-game homestand with the opener of a three-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive 15th Anniversary Season Commemorative Posters, courtesy of Newsday. Duck Tales: Fehlandt Lentini’s two-run home run in the third inning was his third homer of the season. It was also his first since July 12 at Lancaster and first at Bethpage Ballpark as a member of the Ducks. Long Island has now gone deep in three of their first four games during the month of August and have hit 67 homers as a team in 2014…Lentini finished the game with two hits and three runs batted in. The first-year Duck leads the team with 26 two-hit games and is now tied for the team lead in three-RBI games with three, joining Joash Brodin and Adam Bailey. Overall, Lentini has 35 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI games this season. Lentini also picked up his league-leading 38th stolen base this year and has still yet to be caught stealing this season…The Ducks bullpen combined to throw four innings of scoreless baseball on Monday. Sergio Perez and Tommy Organ each threw a shutout inning in their Ducks debut, while Jon Meloan and Brett Lorin followed with a scoreless inning apiece. The four combined to allow three hits and two walks while striking out four. Lorin has made 13 consecutive appearances without allowing an earned run, a span of 11 and two-thirds innings…Evan Crawford made his Ducks debut by starting in center field. He picked up his first Ducks hit and stolen base in the third inning while drawing his first walk and scoring his first run as a Duck in the eighth.
