Early runs doom Long Island

(Sugar Land, Texas, Aug. 9, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks fell to the Sugar Land Skeeters 11-3 on Friday night in the opening game of a six-game series at Constellation Field.

Sugar Land opened the scoring with four runs in the first inning against Ducks starter Nick DeBarr. A Travis Scott triple, an Aaron Bates groundout and a two-run home run by Reid Gorecki to left did the damage. The Skeeters added three more runs in the second, three in the third, and another run in the sixth inning.

The Ducks scratched a run off Sugar Land starter Greg Aquino in the sixth inning on a Ralph Henriquez sacrifice fly to centerfield. Long Island added two more in the seventh inning on a wild pitch and a Bryant Nelson sacrifice fly to left to wrap up the scoring.

Aquino (6-2) picked up the win, throwing seven innings of five-hit, one-run ball. DeBarr (2-9) suffered the loss, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on seven hits in two and a third innings.

The Ducks continue their six-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters Saturday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. EDT from Constellation Field. Long Island returns home on Thursday, August 15 when they battle the Revolution in the opener of a four-game series.
