Long Island rallies late but is edged in extra innings
(Bridgeport, Conn., May 14, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish 4-3 in 13 innings on Wednesday afternoon in the middle game of a three-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

Bridgeport opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI triple by Brandon Boggs’ off Ducks starter Bobby Blevins. The Ducks responded in the third when Sergio Miranda’s RBI single off Bluefish starter D.J. Mitchell tied the game at one.
The Bluefish would break the tie with single runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 3-1 lead. RBI doubles from Sean Burroughs and Luis Rodriguez did the damage. However, Long Island would once again knot the score in the top of the eighth on Cody Puckett’s two-out, two-run single off Bridgeport reliever Joe Bateman.
It remained 3-3 until the bottom of the 13th inning. Three consecutive singles off Ducks reliever Jeremy Accardo, including a RBI base hit by Luis Lopez, gave the Bluefish the walk-off win.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Blevins tossed six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out seven. Mitchell lasted seven innings, yielding one runs on four hits and four walks with six strikeouts. Jaye Chapman (1-0) picked up the win after tossing two scoreless innings of relief while Accardo (3-2) suffered the loss after allowing the game-winning run.
Puckett, Miranda and Lew Ford each had two hits to lead the Flock.
The Ducks wrap up their road trip on Thursday night with the final game of the three-game set against the Bluefish. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Long Island will return home on Friday, May 16 to open a three-game series with the Camden Riversharks. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05.
