(Lancaster, Pa., June 16, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks pounded out 10 hits, but fell to the Lancaster Barnstormers 7-3 on Friday night in the opening game of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

GAME VIDEO: Highlights from Friday’s series opener

Long Island (27-27) starter Alfredo Simon was perfect through three innings in his Ducks debut, but ran into trouble in the fourth, allowing four runs on three hits. The big blow was a two-run home run from Garrett Weber.

The Ducks got on the board in the top of the fifth against Bryan Evans (4-2) of the Barnstormers (29-25) when Elmer Reyes drove home Delta Cleary Jr. with an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1.

Simon (0-1) lasted four innings in his first outing of the season, allowing four runs on three hits, walking one and striking out four. Henry Hirsch relieved him and threw two scoreless innings before Jim Fuller yielded a run in the bottom of the seventh to give Lancaster a 5-1 lead.

Marc Krauss hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth bringing the Ducks to within 5-2, but the Barnstormers answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to extend a 7-2 advantage.

In the top of the ninth, Anthony Vega scored on a Lew Ford single to narrow the gap to 7-3, and the Ducks eventually loaded the bases to bring the tying run to the plate. However, they couldn’t break through against Anthony Carter, who recorded his 12th save of the season.
