(York, Pa., April 28, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 8-4 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series at PeoplesBank Park.
Ivan De Jesus Jr. put the Ducks on top with a two-run single to left field in the third inning off Revolution starter Dustin Richardson. Ryan Dent’s RBI single to left in the bottom of the second off Ducks starter Darin Downs trimmed the Ducks lead to one, but an RBI single to right from Kirk Nieuwenhuis in the third pushed it back up to two at 3-1.
Isaias Tejeda scored from third on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth to make it a one-run ballgame again, but Ramon Cabrera’s RBI groundout in the sixth scored Mike Olt to increase Long Island’s advantage to 4-2. York closed to within 4-3 on Justin Trapp’s RBI groundout in the bottom of the frame, but they would get no closer.
A four-run seventh inning by the Ducks put the game out of reach at 8-3, as the Flock sent nine batters to the plate. Consecutive RBI singles by Nieuwenhuis, Lew Ford and Olt did the damage.
Downs did not factor into the decision but pitched four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk while striking out five. Tim Adleman (1-0) got the win in relief, yielding a run on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts in two innings. Richardson (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings while striking out four.
De Jesus Jr. and Matt den Dekker each had three hits to lead the Ducks offensively. Nieuwenhuis added two hits, two RBIs, a run and a walk.
The Ducks continue their season-opening road trip on Monday night when they begin a four-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Fans can follow all the action on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network.
