(Lancaster, Pa., July 5, 2023) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 12-4 on Wednesday evening in the second of a three-game midweek series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Lancaster jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning versus Long Island starting pitcher McKenzie Mills on a run-scoring double by Andretty Cordero and RBI base knocks from Ariel Sandoval and Joseph Carpenter. The Ducks tied the game at three one half-inning later against Barnstormers starter Spencer Johnston thanks two a two-run double off the bat of Brantley Bell and a wild pitch thrown by Johnston that allowed Bell to hustle down the line from third base with the tying-run.

The visitors took the lead for good in the fourth scoring three times for a 6-3 advantage as Alex Dickerson belted a solo home run to right field and Bell launched a two-run shot to right center. Brian Goodwin’s leadoff tater in the fifth made it 7-4 Flock, while Chance Sisco and Goodwin continued the home run barrage in the sixth as Sisco blasted a two-run shot and Goodwin hit a solo tater for his second of the ballgame as the Ducks extended their advantage to 10-4. Long Island completed their scoring outburst in the seventh by way of an RBI single from Dickerson and a run-scoring double from Bell to give the game its final score of 12-4 as the Flock scored double-digit runs for the second consecutive ballgame.

Mills (1-1) earned the win as the southpaw pitched five innings on the mound, allowing four runs on six hits, walking two and striking out four. Johnston (1-1) suffered the loss, giving up ten runs on nine hits (five home runs) in six innings of work, walking while and striking out five.

Bell finished with three extra-base hits, including a pair of doubles, a home run, five RBI’s, two runs scored, and a walk while Long Island hit five home runs in a ballgame for the second time in 2023, tying a season-high.

Long Island and Lancaster conclude their three-game series on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Long Island returns home on Tuesday, July 11, to begin another three-game set with Lancaster.
