Fourth TD Bank “Take a Duck to Class” appearance takes place

(Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., Mar. 13, 2014) – On Thursday, the Long Island Ducks took a trip to Boyle Road Elementary School to hang out with Kaylee Bertolino and her classmates. Kaylee was one of four winners in the annual TD Bank “Take a Duck to Class” essay contest. Because of her outstanding essay, she received a special visit from TD Bank, Long Island’s favorite mascot, QuackerJack, and the manager of the back-to-back Atlantic League champion Ducks, Kevin Baez.

Nearly 400 students packed the gymnasium for a special assembly to kick off the festivities. Kaylee read her essay on “Why my community is important to me” to the entire student body and received a thunderous applause for a great job. Eric Fishon, TD Bank’s Vice President of US Field Marketing, and Kristin Winter, VP Store Manager of TD Bank in Port Jefferson Station, then congratulated Kaylee and presented her with a $50 Visa gift card. The lovable QuackerJack was then welcomed by Eric, Kristin and all of the students who loudly chanted “Quack-er-Jack!” Finally, Kevin spoke to the students about the importance of studying hard in school and listening to your parents while also recollecting his professional baseball career.

Following the assembly, Kaylee and her classmates all received a gift bag full of goodies, courtesy of TD Bank, and posed for some pictures. To close out a wonderful school day, the class played a game of wiffle ball and had the chance to take their best swing against the Ducks manager. Even QJ joined in the fun by playing the outfield during the game.

Contestants were able to pick up applications from local TD Bank locations this fall and submit an essay of 250 words or less on “Why my community is important to me.” Out of thousands of essays received from all over Long Island, four winners were selected. Each winner received a visit from a member of the Ducks and Long Island’s most popular mascot, QuackerJack, along with a Visa gift card from TD Bank.

The Ducks would like to thank all of those who submitted essays this year and congratulate this year’s four winners:

Jasmine Roldan – Fork Lane School (Hicksville, NY)
Yashmita Logaraj – Pines Elementary School (Hauppauge, NY)
