Long Island recognized for hosting All-Star Game and festivities
(Central Islip, N.Y., Oct. 15, 2018) – The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball today announced its 2018 Post-Season Administrative/Community Honors as selected by the league office and executives. The Long Island Ducks earned the 2018 Promotion of the Year Award for their efforts in hosting the Atlantic League All-Star Game, presented by Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center.
“The highest compliment is one from your peers,” said Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. “For those expert in the industry to recognize our All-Star Game as the league’s Promotion of the Year is flattering and a fitting tribute to our staff for their hard work.”
The Ducks played host to the Atlantic League All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 11th before a past-capacity crowd of 6,414 fans. It marked the third time in franchise history that the club hosted the All-Star festivities after first welcoming the event in 2002 and then doing so again in 2010. The game proved to be one of the most exciting in league history, as the Liberty Division claimed a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Freedom Division. The contest was highlighted by a walk-off, two-out RBI single in the ninth inning by Somerset’s Alfredo Rodriguez, who was subsequently named the All-Star Game Most Valuable Player. Fans were also entertained throughout the event by a pair of highly-acclaimed promotional acts, Tyler’s Amazing Balancing Act and Bucket Ruckus, as well as appearances by mascots from around the league.
In addition to the game, the All-Star festivities featured several other events that were enjoyed by Atlantic League VIPs and fans. On July 10th, league executives and staffs convened at The Bayview House at Captain Bill’s in Bay Shore for the Team Destroyer All-Star On Deck Party. The event featured the distribution of All-Star awards as well as a traditional Long Island clam and lobster bake. Prior to the All-Star Game on July 11th, fans were treated to the Digmi Home Run Derby, which featured six of the league’s top power hitters. New Britain Bees infielder Deibinson Romero went on to claim victory in the event. Finally, following the completion of the game, players and Atlantic League representatives enjoyed the Extra Innings VIP party in the picnic area at Bethpage Ballpark.
