Blake Tekotte joins Long Island

(Central Islip, N.Y., March 21, 2016) – The three-time Atlantic League champion Long Island Ducks today announced the signing of outfielder Blake Tekotte. The former Major Leaguer will begin his first season with the Ducks and the Atlantic League.

“Blake adds a great deal of veteran experience to our clubhouse,” says Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. “He has advanced to the game’s highest level and provides both a solid bat and steady defense.”

Tekotte has three seasons of Major League experience, including two with the San Diego Padres (2011, ’12) and one with the Chicago White Sox (2013). He combined to appear in 50 games, totaling 15 hits, three RBI and five runs. The Missouri native’s first big league hit was a double off of Washington Nationals pitcher Jordan Zimmermann, and his only home run came on August 9, 2013 off of Minnesota Twins pitcher Liam Hendriks.

The 28-year-old spent the 2015 season with the Portland Sea Dogs (AA, Red Sox) of the Eastern League. In 49 games, he compiled a .275 batting average along with three homers, 20 RBI, 17 runs, nine doubles and did not commit a single error. The University of Miami (FL) alum earned an All-Star Game selection in 2010 with Lake Elsinore (A+, Padres) and batted .310 that season with eight home runs, 27 RBI and a .419 on-base percentage, earning a call-up to Double-A San Antonio. Tekotte was originally drafted by the Padres in the third round of the 2008 amateur draft.
