Long Island raps out season high 20 hits
(Lancaster, Penn., Aug. 6, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 11-5 on Tuesday night in the opening game of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The Ducks opened the scoring in the first when Joash Brodin scored on a fielder’s choice. Lancaster evened the score with Jerry Owens scoring on a fielder’s choice in the bottom half of the frame. Long Island broke the game open with a five-run third inning. Bill Hall hit a three-run homer to right field, and Kraig Binick plated two runs with a double.
Long Island added four more runs in the fourth. Josh Barfield scored on a double play groundout, Ryan Strieby drove in a run with a single and Adam Bailey knocked a two-run homer to right to stretch the lead to 10-1. Lancaster scored four in the eighth, keyed by a Ryan Harvey three-run double, but the Ducks added an insurance run with a Barfield single in the ninth.
Ducks starter Matt Way (4-5) recorded the win, allowing one run on six hits with five strikeouts in five innings. Rich Rundles (3-1) took the loss, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on ten hits in three innings.
Binick and Barfield led the Ducks with four hits, and Brodin added three. Hall led Long Island with three runs driven in.
The Ducks continue their nine-game road trip on Wednesday night with the middle game of a three-game series against the Barnstormers. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. from Clipper Magazine Stadium. Long Island returns home on Thursday, August 15 when they battle the Revolution in the opener of a four-game series.
