Long Island shut out for second straight game

(Bridgewater, N.J., May 29, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 3-0 on Friday night in the third game of a four-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.

Somerset got out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a RBI single from Robert Andino off of Ducks starter Billy Buckner. The Patriots extended the lead to 3-0 one inning later. After Thomas Neal’s walk, Chris Marrero’s two-run home run to left field did the damage.

Patriots starter David Harden (3-1) earned the win by tossing five shutout innings, allowing four hits while walking one and striking out two. R.J. Seidel, Paul Smyth, and Kyler Newby pitched three innings of scoreless relief before Jon Hunton earned his sixth save of the season for Somerset. Buckner (0-1) took the loss for Long Island, allowing three runs in four innings. He walked two and struck out seven. Nick Struck, Carmine Giardina, and Eric Niesen held the Patriots scoreless in relief.

Bryan Sabatella, Lew Ford, and Cody Puckett each had a double for Long Island.

The Ducks complete the four-game series with Somerset on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from TD Bank Ballpark. Lefty Andrew Barbosa takes the mound for Long Island against Somerset southpaw Matt Zielinski. Fans can follow all of the action live on the Ducks’ flagship radio station, 103.9-FM LI News Radio. The Ducks will return home on Sunday, May 31 to begin a three-game series against the York Revolution. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 12:35 (12:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Ray Navarrete #16 Jersey Pin as the sixth and final piece of the 2015 Collector’s Series. It will also be a Sunday Family Funday at the ballpark! Prior to the game, fans will be invited onto the field for an autograph session with the Ducks from 12:50 to 1:05.
