Vladimir Frias’ two-hit night not enough to top Patriots
(Central Islip, N.Y., June 12, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 3-1 on Wednesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Neither side dented home plate until the top of the fifth inning when Edwin Espinal’s infield single up the third base line plated Alfredo Rodriguez, giving the Patriots a 1-0 lead. An RBI double to left field by Justin Pacchioli along with a sacrifice fly to center by Rodriguez in the sixth extended the Somerset advantage to three.
The Ducks closed to within 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh on Ezequiel Carrera’s sac fly to left. However, they could not pull even.
Thomas Dorminy (1-4) earned the win, tossing seven innings of one-run ball, allowing seven hits and three walks while striking out seven. Jake Fisher (3-5) took the loss, surrendering three runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks over six innings with three strikeouts. Mike Antonini picked up his 17th save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
Vladimir Frias led the Flock offensively with two hits.
