10 strikeouts from pitching staff not enough on Tuesday night
 

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 22, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Road Warriors 2-0 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Alfredo Silverio put the Road Warriors in front with a solo home run to right field off Ducks starter Matt Larkins in the third inning. Silverio followed that up with a two-out RBI double in the fourth to double the lead.

Long Island threatened to tie the game in the ninth when Lew Ford singled and David Washington walked. However, the Ducks could not even the score.

Road Warriors starter Giovanni Soto (1-1) earned the win, pitching five scoreless innings, allowing five hits while striking out seven. Larkins (1-1) took the loss, giving up two runs on eight hits in six innings with six strikeouts. Andrew Johnston collected his first save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

Ford, Jordany Valdespin and Dan Lyons each had two hits to pace the Flock.

The Ducks and Road Warriors continue their three-game set on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). t’s a Waddle In Wednesday!
