High run support more than enough for Brownell

(Sugar Land, Texas, May 19, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters 9-2 in the finale of a four game series on Thursday night at Constellation Field in Texas.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the victory

The Ducks offense struck early, as in the top of the first inning, Lew Ford doubled to bring in Dan Lyons. Two batters later, Ford would score on an RBI single from Sean Burroughs. The Flock would come back in the second as Mike Blanke scored on a Fehlandt Lentini sacrifice fly, and Blake Tekotte would score on Ford’s single.

Ricky Hague would put the Skeeters on the board in the third inning with an RBI single to score Johan Limonta.

The Ducks extended their lead in the top of the fourth, as Ford hit a long fly ball that was misplayed by Sugar Land centerfielder Kent Matthes, scoring Tekotte and putting Ford on second. Tyler Colvin then singled to score Ford. The next inning, Tekotte hit a two-run home run to right field to further extend the Ducks advantage.

Jeremy Barfield drove in Jeff Dominguez on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the 5th inning to give the Skeeters their second run, but a 7th inning sac fly from Lentini, bringing in Ruben Gotay, would bring the game to its final score of 9-2.

John Brownell (2-0) got the win, pitching six innings allowing two runs on eight hits and one walk, with six strikeouts. Parker Frazier (4-1) took the loss, tossing four innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits, one walk, and three strikeouts.
