Long Island launches three homers, racks up 14 hits in victory

(Bridgewater, N.J., April 27, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 10-6 on Thursday night in the finale of a three-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.

GAME VIDEO: Alex Burg, Delta Cleary Jr. and Nate Freiman all leave the yard

Nolan Reimold brought home Fehlandt Lentini with the game’s first run on a sacrifice fly to center field in the opening inning. Elmer Reyes doubled the lead in the second with an RBI single up the middle off Patriots starter Logan Darnell.

Somerset answered with three runs in the second off Ducks starter Rafael Perez to take a 3-2 lead. An RBI single by Aharon Eggleston and a two-run double by Darren Ford did the damage. The Ducks took the lead back in the third on a two-out three run home run to left-center by Alex Burg. However, a run-scoring double play ball and an RBI single by Eggleston tied the game back up at five in the bottom of the frame.

Delta Cleary Jr. put the Flock back ahead in the fourth with a solo homer to left-center, and two more runs in the fifth extended the lead to 8-5. Nate Freiman’s opposite-field solo homer, and Burg’s RBI double highlighted the scoring. Another RBI single by Eggleston in the fifth trimmed the lead to two, but a sac fly off the bat of Fehlandt Lentini in the eighth made it a 9-6 ballgame. Dan Lyons rounded out the scoring with a two-out RBI single in the ninth.

Perez did not factor into the decision but pitched four and one-third innings, yielding six runs (four earned) on 11 hits and a walk with one strikeout. Rob Rogers (1-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief, allowing a hit while striking out one. Logan Darnell (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering eight runs on 10 hits and three walks with two strikeouts in five innings.

Eight of the nine Ducks batters collected hits in the game. Lyons led the way with three, while four others added two. Burg reached base in all five of his plate appearances, finishing with two hits, four RBI, two runs and three walks.
