Long Island’s 12 hits not enough

(Lancaster, Penn., July 11, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 10-4 on Friday night in the second game of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from Friday’s contest

The Ducks struck first in the second inning on a two-out RBI double by Jon Myers off Barnstormers starter Chris Schwinden. Lancaster responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame on a RBI single by Dayton Buller and a two-run double by Grant Zawadzki.

Long Island pulled back within one in the third on a sac fly to left by Cody Puckett, but a Brock Kjeldgaard solo homer in the fourth pushed the lead back to two at 4-2. Lew Ford trimmed the deficit to one again with a two-out RBI single to left in the fifth.

Lancaster put the game out of reach with a four-run fifth. A RBI double by Cole Garner, a RBI single by Andrew Clark and a two-run double by Casey Frawley did the damage. A Puckett sac fly in the seventh and a two-run homer by Clark in the bottom of the inning rounded out the scoring.

Schwinden (9-1) got the win, tossing six innings, allowing three runs on 11 hits while striking out two. Garceau (8-2) took the loss, surrendering eight runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts in five innings.

Eight of nine Ducks batters had at least one hit, with Ford, Fehlandt Lentini, Brendan Harris and Dan Lyons each collecting two.
