18 hits by Revolution too much for Long Island
(York, Penn., June 1, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the York Revolution 8-5 on Saturday night in the second game of a four-game series at Sovereign Bank Stadium.
York struck first in the opening inning on Andy Marte’s RBI single to left off Ducks starter John Brownell. Long Island immediately answered in the second inning on Rian Kiniry’s RBI single to left off Revolution starter Rick Zagone. The Revs re-took the lead on a sac fly to center by Patrick Arlis in their half of the second and added two more in the third on a two-run single to right by Jeff Fiorentino.
Adam Bailey brought the Ducks within two in the fourth on a mammoth solo homer to right. However, a RBI double by Wilson Batista and a run-scoring single by Ruddy Yan in the fifth pushed the York lead to 6-2. Long Island clawed back to within one in the seventh on a two-run homer by P.J. Phillips and a RBI double by Joash Brodin, but single runs for York in the seventh and eighth put the game out of reach.
Yunior Novoa (3-0) got the win with two scoreless innings of relief for Zagone, who allowed two runs on five hits in four innings. Brownell (3-4) suffered the loss, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on 16 hits while striking out five in six and two-thirds innings. Michael Wuertz earned his first save with a scoreless ninth.
Brodin led the Ducks with three hits and extended his on-base streak to a season-long 21 games. Bailey extended his on-base to 19 games and his hitting streak to 12 games.
The Ducks and Revolution continue their four-game set on Sunday evening. Game time is slated for 5:00 p.m. from Sovereign Bank Stadium.
