(Camden, N.J., Sept. 22, 2012) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks 9-0 in a rain-shortened six inning game on Saturday night to take the second game of a three-game series at Campbell’s Field.

The Ducks jumped out to a 3-0 lead with two runs in the third inning and one in the fourth against Riversharks starter Kevin Reese. Ray Navarrete’s two-run double, which set a franchise record for most extra-base hits in a single season with 67, and a RBI single by Matt Esquivel highlighted the scoring.

A four-run fifth inning extended the lead to seven, with Joash Brodin’s run-scoring double and a three-run homer by Brandon Sing doing the damage. Navarrete drove home two more in the sixth with a two-run blast to left field, his 18th home run of the season, making the score 9-0 before the rains came. The seven-year Duck is now one extra-base hit away from tying the Atlantic League record of 69, done by Tommy Everidge in 2011.

Matt Way (2-0) started for the Ducks and earned the win, tossing six and one-third scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out six. Reese (4-10) was saddled with the loss, surrendering seven runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts in five innings of work.

Navarrete and Timo Perez each were on base all four times they batted. Both led the Flock with three hits at the plate, with Navarrete’s four RBI extending his team-leading total to 90.
