(High Point, N.C., June 14, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the High Point Rockers 5-3 on Friday night in the opener of a four-game series at BB&T Point.

The Ducks wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Ezequiel Carrera hit a leadoff home run to right field to begin the game. David Washington launched a home run of his own in the fourth inning, a two-run shot to center, giving the Flock a 3-0 advantage.

L.J. Mazzilli plated two more runs in the eighth with a two-run single to center, extending the Ducks lead to 5-0. The Rockers rallied in the ninth, scoring three runs thanks to Michael Russell coming home on a wild pitch and a two-run single to center from Matt Jones. However, that is as close as High Point would come.

Ducks starter Travis Banwart (1-0) picked up the win, tossing seven scoreless innings, scattering three hits and two walks while striking out three. Rockers starter Tyler Herron (1-3) was tagged with the loss, pitching seven innings, allowing five runs on nine hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Josh Lueke earned his fourth save of the season, recording the final two outs of the game on strikeouts.

Carrera led Long Island offensively, with three hits, an RBI and a run. Mazzilli chipped in with two hits and two RBIs.
