POSTGAME VIDEO: Kevin Baez, Sing and Reid Gorecki talk about the victory
The Ducks took a one-run lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI double by Brandon Sing off Patriots starter Justin Cassel. Somerset tied it up in the fourth on a run-scoring fielder’s choice off Ducks starter Mike Loree and took the lead in the sixth on a solo home run by Jake Fox and a RBI single by Dan DeGeorge.
Long Island would answer right back in the bottom half of the sixth with a run-scoring fielder’s choice off the bat of Reid Gorecki and a RBI single by Timo Perez to tie the game at three. After a RBI single by Jesse Hoorelbeke put the Pats back up 4-3, the Ducks would take the lead back for good with a four-spot in the bottom of the seventh. James McOwen’s RBI single, a two-run triple by Dan Lyons and a RBI sac fly by Gorecki did the damage.
Loree did not factor in to the decision, as he tossed five and one-third innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out five. Connor Graham (2-1) earned the win after allowing just one run in one and two-thirds innings of relief, while Cassel (3-6) was saddled with the loss, yielding seven runs (five earned) on 12 hits in six and one-third innings. Jon Hunton picked up his fifth save with a scoreless ninth.
Sing and Gorecki paced the Flock with three hits apiece, while Lyons and Gorecki each had two RBI.
